Main Atal Hoon Review: Main Atal Hoon has been released on the big screen. Let us know how successful is this film made on Atal Bihari Vajpayee and how unsuccessful.
Bollywood’s relationship with biopics is very old. There too, if a film is being made on politics, the makers are immediately ready. If we talk about some recent films, a biopic has been made on Narendra Modi. Balasaheb. The biopic on Thackeray has come. We have also seen former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh’s film on the big screen. But one thing remained common in all the three films. None of them could win the hearts of the audience. None of the films got the status of hit. Now Pankaj Tripathi is standing in front of us with the biopic of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Bharat Ratna… Former Prime Minister of the country. The tallest leader of BJP. Has Pankaj Tripathi been able to do anything amazing in his film or not? Let us know…
Story
‘Main Atal Hoon’ is inspired by a Marathi book, all the stories told in the book are also a part of the film. Apart from this, whatever information is available in the public domain about Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the makers have also made full use of it. In the film, you will see the early life of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and how his love for speech developed. Later, how did he join RSS, what was his role there… along with this, many important issues like his political entry… Kargil war and nuclear testing will be covered.
That means, the entire life of Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been shown from beginning to end. Whenever a director decides to make a biopic, the biggest challenge he faces is how to present the information in a different way. Now let’s talk about Atal Bihari Vajpayee, complete information about his life is available on Google. Unheard stories have come up in the media many times, so the challenge before the director was whether he could show something different or should we say in a more interesting way or not.
Does biopic bored audience?
Now I have to say… the director of ‘Main Atal Hoon’ has not been completely successful in this task. This film is two hours and 29 minutes long, which is not only long but also boring. Now Vajpayee’s life is not that boring, but because of the kind of treatment given to the film, the flow of the story breaks on many occasions.
Think for yourself. Kargil war, nuclear testing, imposition of emergency in the country, all these are events that change the history of the country. Everyone is interested in them, but in order to keep things simple, efforts have been made to bore the audience. The approach of the makers is quite dull in this department.
Pankaj’s acting is amazing, rest is average
If there is any PLUS POINT of ‘Main Atal Hoon’ then it is Pankaj Tripathi. Looking at the trailer, it was definitely felt whether he would be able to play the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee properly or not… but he has done a brilliant job. He has not only captured Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s walking style or speaking style… but it must be said that he has truly brought his character alive on the big screen many times. Whenever Pankaj Tripathi gives a speech in the style of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, you want to listen to it!
This is the big highlight of the film… In the film, Raja Ramesh Kumar has been cast in the role of LK Advani, Pramod Pathak has played the role of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Daya Shankar Pandey has played the role of Deen Dayal Upadhyay. The work of all three is average, the makers have also not tried to explore their characters much.
Where did he succeed and where did he fail in direction?
This film has been directed by Ravi Jadhav, a National Award winning director, so the expectations were already very high. He definitely deserves praise for the fact that he has tried to show Vajpayee’s life truthfully without tampering with the facts. If Atal Bihari Vajpayee had opposed the Babri demolition, then it has been shown in the same way in the film. No political pressure of any kind has been seen. The director made two mistakes – the first was that he did not pay attention to the length of the film, it was stretched too much.On top of this, the elements that keep the story together are missing. If we talk about the songs of the story, they can be called decent. Background music should have been much better.
So this film is not made for the big screen. You can enjoy Pankaj Tripathi’s acting on OTT also, there is no need to spend money and go to the hall for that. This means that Bollywood will have to wait longer for a good biopic… ‘Main Atal Hoon’ gets 2 STARS from our side.
