Sangli: India ranks first in the world in the production of natural turmeric in the post-corona period. Traders, Adte play an important role in turmeric production, purchase, export in Sangli. There is a huge demand for curcumin extracted from turmeric for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals from Europe and America. A seminar was organized by Federation of Indian Spice Stakeholders (FISS) at Kakun Hotel, Sangli for Turmeric Traders, Adte Traders of Unjha (Gujarat) Sangli. The central government has recently established the Turmeric Board. This organization will act as a link between the central government, traders and farmers. Organizers claim that the seminar will be useful for increasing turmeric trade.
The seminar in Sangli was attended by Guardian Minister Suresh Khade, MP Sanjay Patil, Chairman of Sangli Agricultural Produce Market Committee Sujay Shinde. Manoj Kumar Vetal, Scientist of Turmeric Research Center, Sangli, Associate Director of Agriculture, Sangli was present. The government is giving importance to organic products including spices. President Nayak said, “After Corona, the production of turmeric in the country has gained great importance. Artificial turmeric produced in China is not in demand in the global market.
No one has faith in Chinese turmeric. 3-4 kg of curcumin is extracted from 100 kg of turmeric in the country. They are used for cosmetics. Therefore, we are trying to understand the problems of the turmeric traders, Adte, and producer farmers in the country and in Sangli through this seminar. This is just the beginning. We are going to put the issues arising out of this before the central government and try to solve them.
The new law will ensure that all stakeholders in the system including producers, traders and stakeholders are satisfied with sustainable agriculture. We are taking suggestions from seminars across the country for their implementation.
