According to a research published in the journal Pediatrics, corona can destroy not only taste and smell, but also sound.
Infections of Omicron’s new sub-variant JN.1 have increased not only in China-Singapore but also in several parts of India. Mortality and hospitalization rates are currently low during the delta variant. Corona can harm our body in many ways. This affects taste and smell. However, along with this, a research has found that corona infection also occurs in the throat. Due to this, there is a possibility of loss of sound.
This research, published in the journal Pediatrics under the name Bilateral vocal cord paralysis requiring long term tracheostomy after SARS-CoV-2 infection, has shown that corona can not only destroy taste and smell but also the voice. This is called vocal cord paralysis.
Preparedness of Delhi Govt
GNCTD Minister (Health) Saurabh Bhardwaj had convened a meeting with respiratory medicine experts on November 30 in view of the rise in incidence of respiratory diseases including pneumonia among children in China in Nov-2023. SOPs were issued on testing by RT PCR in case of severe pneumonia, maintaining specimen details and maintaining adequate stock of anti-viral drugs. In this, mock drills were conducted from December 13 to December 17 in all hospitals to assess the preparedness on various aspects.
Apart from this, instructions were given regarding making all these facilities available.

A meeting of Union Health Ministers was convened on December 20 to review the preparedness of health facilities to deal with ILI/SARI. Delhi Health Minister and other officials participated in that meeting. The data of covid test is currently maintained by ICMR. Delhi government has requested ICMR to share lab test data related to Covid.
As on December 19, the number of RT-PCR tests conducted in Kerala and Karnataka and the positivity rate were 537 and 487 i.e. 20.75 per cent and 2.41 per cent respectively. In Delhi, the number of single-day RT-PCR and positives was 208 and 0.48%, respectively.
Orders given to prepare in the wake of Corona
• Covid samples will be collected from ILI/SARI patients attending all government hospitals in Delhi
• Sufficient number of Covid samples should be sent for RT-PCR testing as per guidelines.
• Genome sequencing of positive RT PCR samples should be performed according to guidelines.
• Measures should be taken to increase community awareness to avoid crowded and poorly ventilated places and to wear masks in crowded and close quarters and hospital premises.
