The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Friday announced the shortlist of films for the Oscars 20242. Malayalam movie ‘2018’ is not named in this. So Indians are disappointed.
The film ‘2018’ could not make it to the shortlist. The Academy has announced the shortlisted films in 10 categories including Original Song, Documentary Feature, International Feature, Original Score. The list includes films such as ‘Barbie’, ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’.
Jude Anthony Joseph, the director of ‘2018’ shared a post on social media and expressed his disappointment after the film dropped out of the Oscar race. Joseph apologized to his well-wishers and fans by sharing screenshots of the 15 shortlisted films.
‘2018’, India’s official entry for Oscar Awards 2024, is based on the story of floods in Kerala. The film made huge money at the box office.
According to media reports, the film ‘2018’ was made on a budget of just Rs 12 crore, but it grossed over Rs 100 crore. Directed by Jude Anthony Joseph, the film stars Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Srinivasan, Narayan and Lal in important roles.
