QS World University Ranking 2024: Delhi-based Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has been ranked as the best university in the country. Indian universities have topped the latest rankings released by London-based higher education analysis firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

JNU leads top class Indian University

Delhi-based Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has been ranked as the best university in the country. Indian universities have been ranked in the latest rankings released by London-based higher education analysis firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). JNU ranks 20th in the world in Development Studies.

The university is ranked among the best institutions in the country in geography, history, modern languages, politics and international relations, anthropology, English language and literature and linguistics. The QS rankings were announced on Wednesday.

According to QS, Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad) is among the top 25 institutions in the world in business and management studies, while IIM-Bangalore and IIM-Calcutta are among the top 50 institutions.

Jessica Turner, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of QS, said that the biggest challenge facing India is quality education. There is still much work to be done to improve the quality of education, access to higher education, digital readiness of universities and global competitiveness. QS Senior Vice President Ben Souter said India is close to overtaking Britain in research at its current pace.

Which IIM besides JNU made it to the rankings?

The QS World University Rankings by Subject ranked the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) at Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta among the top 50 institutions for business and management studies. IIM Ahmedabad is leading in this which is included in the top-25.

IIMs Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta ranked in the top-50 in terms of business and management studies, with IIM Ahmedabad in the top-25. Chennai’s Savetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences is ranked 24th in the world in Dentistry.

India excels in five disciplines

Indian universities have performed best in five disciplines: Computer Science, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Business Studies and Physics. IIT Delhi ranked 63rd in Computer Science and Information Systems, IIT Bombay 95th in Chemistry, IIT Bombay 30th in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, OP Jindal Global University 72nd in Law and DU’s Environmental Science.
