In a remote area bordering Pakistan, the Adani Group has built the world’s largest renewable energy park in the Khawda area of Gujarat. Adani Green Energy has invested approximately Rs 1.5 lakh crore to generate 30 MW of electricity.
Managing Director Vineet Jain said “We have started generating 2,000 MW of power in Khawda and plan to generate 4 GW in March 2025 and 5 GW annually thereafter,”.
Vineet Jai said that 81 billion units of power would be generated at Khawda, which could provide energy to countries like Belgium, Chile and Switzerland.

There is also an airstrip at Khawda which is used a few times a week to bring company officials to Mundra or Ahmedabad. There are many challenges in this area of highly saline water.
Dust storms occur from March to June, there is no communication and transport infrastructure, the nearest habitable place is about 80 kilometers away. Water does not seep under the ground during monsoons. Despite these challenges, the Adani Group is very ambitious with its renewable energy plans.
Officials said 8,000 houses are being built for some of the laborers in Khawda village. The project will be completely covered by a waterless robotic module cleaning system. The land in Khawda belongs to the government, which has leased the land to the Adani group for 40 years.
Because of the salty soil, there were no trees. Although the land is not fertile for any crop, it is very ‘fertile’ for solar energy. It is the second best solar project in the country after Ladakh.
Pakistan is just one kilometer away
18 kilometers from the airstrip is Adani Group’s Khawda Renewable Park, spread over 538 square kilometers (about five times the size of Paris). The outer edge of the energy park is just one km from the international border of Pakistan. BSF has control in an area of one kilometer.
