Tiktok Breach Privacy of Childrens (COPPA)
There is hardly a young person in the world who does not know about Tiktok. TikTok is a very popular social media platform known for making and sharing short videos. On this platform, users create a variety of entertaining, informative and skillful videos and share them with other users. These videos can include dance, singing, comedy, education, lifestyle and many other topics.
The Indian government banned many Chinese apps including TikTok in 2020. Now a new feat of TikTok has come to the world. The US government has filed a case against TikTok making serious allegations.
The US government has filed a major lawsuit against TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance. The lawsuit alleges that TikTok collected a large amount of private information of children under the age of 13 and misused that information.
According to the government, TikTok collected children’s information in violation of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The Act requires parental consent to collect information from children under the age of 13.
It has also been alleged that children can come in contact with adults and view adult content on the TikTok app. This has created the issue of children’s safety.

Interestingly, even in 2019, the government accused TikTok’s predecessor, Musically, of violating COPPA. TikTok was then ordered by a court to come up with more stringent measures to comply with COPPA.
TikTok has expressed its disagreement with these allegations. The company says that we strive to protect children and are implementing measures to create a safe environment for children on our apps.
This matter has also attracted the attention of American politicians. Fears have been expressed that this app, owned by a Chinese company, is dangerous to national security. Also, it is alleged that the app exposes children to inappropriate content and also contains content that causes divisiveness in the society.

TikTok is the most popular social media app in America. There are 17 crore US users on this app. However, the company and its users allege that TikTok faces stricter controls than US-owned social media apps.
US President Joe Biden recently introduced a law for national security. According to the law, TikTok will be banned if ByteDance does not sell TikTok to an American company. However, this ban will be implemented only after the 2024 elections. TikTok has sued the US government, alleging that it violated the law.
The issue between TikTok and the US government has become global.
