Hongsen Rocket Boy Trending: Hongsen is an 11-year-old boy from China who has become a social media sensation for his remarkable achievement of building his own rocket.
A Passion Ignited: Hongsen’s Inspiration for Rocketry
Hongsen became interested in space and rockets at the age of four. At that time, he visited a rocket launch center (a.k.a. China Rocket Boy). After this visit, his curiosity about rockets grew so much that he started an online programming course while still in kindergarten. He even taught himself difficult subjects like physics and chemistry with the help of books, online videos, and forums of space enthusiasts.

From Dreams to Reality: Building the First Rocket
Hongsen’s curiosity was also supported by his parents. He even converted his hall into a rocket research center (a.k.a. China Rocket Boy). From August 2022, Hongsen began building his own first rocket. It launched the rocket in June 2023, but after some distance, it malfunctioned and crashed.

Perseverance Leads to Progress: Refining the Design
But Hongsen did not give up. He collected the pieces of that rocket and worked out the mistakes in it (a.k.a. China Rocket Boy). “Nitrocellulose did not explode as expected. Springs and lithium batteries are also damaged. Maybe there is some problem with the attachment of the rocket body,” he said.

Seeing Hongsen’s bravery, his father said, “For me, even if this rocket crashed, its first flight was a success (a.k.a. China Rocket Boy). I was so excited.”
Setting His Sights on the Stars: Hongsen’s Future Goals
Now Hongsen is busy further improving his second rocket. He wrote more than 600 lines of code for the flight control system of his latest rocket. According to his father, Hongsen’s future goal is to join one of China’s seven best civil defense institutes and build a real rocket for China for space exploration when he grows up.
