The Supreme Court has stopped the exhibition of the film ‘Hamare Baarah’ on Thursday (June 13). The Supreme Court has said that the film should not be screened until the Bombay High Court gives its verdict on a petition alleging that the film is insulting to Islamic faith and married Muslim women. The Supreme Court has said that the High Court should take the decision of this case as soon as possible.

A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta ordered the screening of the film to be stayed till the disposal of the petition challenging the film’s certification.

“We request the High Court to dispose of the petition against the film at the earliest,” the court said while staying the release of the film.

The Supreme Court rejected the lawyer’s claim

“All objectionable scenes have been removed from the teaser,” said a lawyer representing the filmmaker. But the court rejected this claim of the lawyer. “We saw the teaser this morning and all the scenes are there,” he said.

When the lawyers representing the filmmakers said they would suffer damages for withholding the release of the film, the court said, “If the teaser of the film is so offensive, what about the entire film? Prima facie, it appears that you yourself have failed to delete the scenes in the teaser. Against this backdrop, The court asked the high court to expeditiously decide on the petition challenging the film’s CBFC certification.

Hamare Baarah got caught in the vortex of controversy

For the past few days, the film Hamare Baarah has been caught in the vortex of controversy. Many have alleged that the film misrepresents Islam. Thus a petition was filed in the court against the film. Now the film cannot be released till the hearing of this petition.

The film Hamare Baarah was slated to release on June 14. Annu Kapoor has played the lead role in this movie.
