Recently, the central government had also increased the inflation allowance. After this, before the announcement of elections, several state governments had also announced to increase DA for their employees. The increased DA came into force from 1 January 2024.
The Ministry of Personnel in an order on Monday informed about the increase in the limit of education allowance and hostel grant. Citing the 2018 guideline, the ministry said that whenever the dearness allowance in the revised salary increases by 50 per cent, the limit of children’s education allowance and hostel subsidy will naturally increase by 25 per cent.
The Centre increases the children’s education allowance and hostel subsidy for its employees. This change comes after the dearness allowance reached 50 per cent in January this year.

The ministry said it is seeking information on the amount of child education allowance and hostel subsidy due to increase in dearness allowance of central employees from January 1, 2024.
The Ministry of Personnel in its order said that now the children’s education allowance will be Rs 2,812.5 per month and hostel subsidy will be Rs 8,437.5 per month. Apart from this, change in amount is also mentioned in special circumstances. The ministry said that these reforms will come into effect from January 1, 2024.
Before Holi, the central government had increased the dearness allowance of government employees and pensioners from 46 percent to 50 percent. This decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This dearness allowance was extended from January 1 to June 30, 2024. Along with this, the House Rent Allowance (HRA) of central employees has been increased.
