A balanced diet, regular exercise and weight management are advised to keep the disease at bay on the occasion of ‘World Fatty Liver Day’. Studies have revealed that about twenty-five percent of the world’s population is affected by the disease ‘fatty liver’. In India, however, this ratio is somewhat higher, so experts are advising to be alert at the right time.

In a research conducted by AIIMS, Delhi, approximately 37.8 percent of citizens in India have mild to severe fatty liver. June 13 is celebrated as ‘Global Fatty Liver Day’ to create awareness in this regard. This year the day is being celebrated on the theme ‘Get regular check up and be aware of fatty liver’.

Symptoms are unknown, but ‘BMI’ is important

There are no common symptoms of fatty liver. But there may be symptoms like pain in the right side of the stomach, feeling weak. But the risk can be estimated through Modi mass index (BMI). Mainly obesity, type-2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, poor diet, physical inactivity increase the risk of ‘fatty liver’.

Recognize the danger in time, medication: Dr. Bohri

In the background of ‘Fatty Liver’ Day, Dr. Hussain Bohri held a press conference on Wednesday (12th). He said that it is important to recognize the risk of ‘fatty liver’ and start treatment as soon as possible. If inflammation persists for a long time due to fatty liver and the ulcer goes deep, there is a risk of liver cirrhosis.

There is also a higher incidence of liver cancer. Those with a background of ‘fatty liver’ have a higher risk of death from cancer or heart disease. Since the symptoms are mild, it is worth getting checked out if you are obese or have a health complaint. This can be clarified through the investigation ‘Fibroscan’.

He called for examination and treatment under the guidance of doctors. Well balanced diet, regular exercise, frequent check-up’s, such a care can keep us away from ‘fatty liver’, Dr. Bohri said.
