A cyber security firm has informed that the data of as many as 7.5 crore mobile users in the country has been leaked. Due to this, the Department of Telecom of India has urged all mobile service operators to conduct a security audit. Times has published a news about this.

Cyber security firm CloudSEK has claimed that hackers are selling 1.8 terabytes of data on the dark web. This includes the data of around 750 million Indian users. Cloudsec’s researchers have been informed about this by a hacker. Of course, this hacker also said that he had no hand in this.

Appeal to companies

This data is said to be leaked mainly by telecom companies. Due to this, the telecom department has asked the companies to conduct their security audit, an official said. Of course, the telecom companies have said that the information in Cloudsec’s report is outdated and not stolen through a security breach.

Selling on the Dark Web

According to Cloudsec’s report, groups like CYBO CREW, CyboDevil, UNIT8200 have made Indian mobile network consumer database available for sale. It contains sensitive information of about 750 million Indians. It includes information like name, mobile number, address, Aadhaar details. The report also said that the hacker demanded 3,000 US dollars for this data.

Information about this data breach came to light on January 23. After this, CloudSec informed CERT-In, Ministry of Telecom and concerned authorities about this. This data can be used for identity theft, reputation damage, cyber-attacks and even financial fraud, so this is not something to ignore, says Cloudsec.
