R. Praggnanandhaa makes history in 'Classic Chess'! Defeated No. 1 player Magnus Carlsen for the first time

India’s Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa has defeated Magnus Carlsen for the first time in ‘Classic Chess’. The young player from India defeated the world number 1 player in the third round of Norway Chess 2024. With this win, 18-year-old Indian player Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa has taken the lead in this prestigious tournament at Carlsen’s home ground.

18-year-old Grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa registered his maiden victory over world number one Magnus Carlsen in the third round of the Norway Chess 2024 tournament in Stavanger on Wednesday (May 29). R Praggnanandhaa scored 5.5 out of 9 at the end of the third round of the Norway Chess tournament. On the other hand, American Grandmaster Fabio Caruana finished second with three points after a win over GM Ding Liren on Wednesday.

This is a big achievement for R. Praggnanandhaa, who lost to Magnus Carlsen in last year’s World Cup. Incidentally, R. Praggnanandhaa is only the fourth Indian to defeat Carlson in ‘classic chess’.
