Semiconductor Production: The government has received four proposals for semiconductor manufacturing, as well as 13 proposals for chip assembly, testing and packaging units (ATMP).
Semiconductor Plants in India
Giant Semiconductor Plants will soon be set up in India. These are going to be fully developed plants. In addition, several chip assembly and packaging units will also be set up in India. For this, Israel’s Tower Semiconductors has submitted a proposal of eight billion dollars. Union Electronics and IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar informed that a similar proposal has also been submitted by Tata Group.
The government received 13 proposals
Chandrasekhar said that many companies from all over the world are eager to set up semiconductor plants in India. The government has received four proposals for semiconductor manufacturing, as well as 13 proposals for chip assembly, testing and packaging (ATMP) units. In addition, American memory chip maker Micron is already setting up a chip assembly unit in Gujarat by investing 22,516 crores.
Approval after elections
Semiconductors of 65, 40 and 28 nanometer technology will be manufactured in this plant. The proposals given by all the companies are being considered. We are trying to approve these plants before the elections. However, if that does not happen, these proposals will definitely be approved during the third term of Prime Minister Modi, Chandrasekhar said at this time.
What is the benefit to India?
Currently, major companies are manufacturing their electronic products in India. While many things are being manufactured in the country under the Make in India campaign, we are dependent on others for semiconductors. Semiconductor demand in India is estimated to touch $100 billion in the coming years. In this case, if the manufacturing of semiconductors starts in India, then the cost will be reduced. But on the other hand, India can come forward as a leading country in the export of semiconductors.
