Saree jahan se achcha..
India chatted with its citizen in space for the first time in a joint conference with the crew of Soyuz T-11. At this time, the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi asked, how does India look from space? While answering this time, Rakesh Sharma said in Hindi, ‘Sare Jahan Se Achcha.
That moment was ‘boring’.
Rakesh Sharma had said in an interview that he was feeling ‘boring’ on the day of Soyuz launch. He had practiced this moment many times. So, on that day too, everything was done as per routine, he says.
What do they do now?
Rakesh Sharma currently lives with his wife in a small village called Coonoor. He is living a simple life away from the limelight. Of course, they are certainly not far removed from space missions. He is currently assisting ISRO’s Gaganyaan mission as a consultant. Through the Gaganyaan mission, India will send its own astronauts into space for the first time.
