Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the first installment of Rs 540 crore under ‘PM Jan Man Yojana’ today on Makar Sankranti. This money will be used to build permanent houses for tribals living in remote areas of the country.

Prime Minister Modi will release this installment through video conferencing. The government intends to build 490,000 houses by 2026 under this scheme. A budget of Rs 2,390 crore has been fixed for this.

What is PM-Janman Yojana?

On November 15, 2023, the Prime Minister-Jan Mana Yojana was announced. On the same day, the Prime Minister flagged off the Vikas Bharat Sankalp Yatra from Khutni in Jharkhand.

The scheme was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during her budget speech in February 2023. She said that the vulnerable tribal groups will be provided with safe houses, clean drinking water, education, nutrition, roads and livelihood.

A budget of Rs 15,000 crore will be given for this in the next three years. In a press release on Sunday, the Prime Minister’s Office said the total budget of the PM-Jan Yojana is Rs 24,104 crore.

In this, the share of the Center is Rs 15,336 crore and the share of the states is Rs 8,768 crore. It will focus on eleven schemes across nine ministries.

Nine ministries have approved projects worth Rs 4,700 crore since the scheme was announced in November. In the last two months, 916 Anganwadi centers have been sanctioned at a rate of Rs 12 lakh per centre. 816 centers will open by the end of this month.

The government plans to start 2,500 Anganwadi centers by 2026 with a budget of Rs 126 crore. The government plans to set up 1,000 medical units with a budget of Rs 34 crore during the same period. Out of which 100 MMUs have been approved.

The Ministry of Communications has been given Rs 243 crore to install mobile towers in all deprived villages and wadis by 2026. Since November, 206 mobile towers have been approved in 503 villages.
