The central government has started taking fast steps in the case of ‘Deepfake’. The central government has directed social media platforms to make necessary changes in their policies as per the Centre’s Information Technology (IT) policy on ‘deepfakes’. Also, the center has given instructions to make necessary changes to prevent the use of 12 types of internet use in India through ‘deepfakes’.For this, social media platforms have been given a deadline of seven days.

Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar informed today that the rule of ‘zero tolerance’ has been implemented in case of violation of IT rules. After the meeting held with the social media companies, Chandrasekhar interacted with the media. He said, “Today we had a long discussion with various social media platforms and various companies working on the Internet. He has been treated as an intermediary.Since October last year, we have been warning these intermediary companies about deepfakes and misinformation being spread on social media. These intermediary companies have acknowledged that the existing Information and Technology Act of the Government of India and its regulations are capable of curbing the spread of misinformation. Similarly, it was also discussed what would need to be amended in the future or what new rules would need to be prepared.

In this meeting, Chandrasekhar has expressed his concern regarding deepfake to the related companies. He also told the companies that this is likely to create a rift in family relations and society. “The government will help citizens to file cases on social media platforms for violating IT norms if users are offended by offensive content like deepfakes,” said Chandrasekhar.The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will develop a mechanism through which users can report violations of IT norms to the government through social media platforms. Similarly, social media platforms have also been instructed to delete objectionable content within 24 hours after a complaint is filed in the case of deep fake.

Appointment of a special officer According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, a special officer will be appointed by the central government to monitor whether the 12 types of content banned in India are not being disseminated through social media, and whether social media platforms are following all the rules. came, This woke up the government. Recently, a deepfake video of actress Rashmika Mandana went viral. Similarly, actress Kajol’s deepfake video also went viral. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that a deepfake video of him playing garba had been released. Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s daughter Sara’s video also went viral on social media. As the videos of famous people, politicians, actresses in the society went viral in this manner, the government has taken strict steps in this regard.
