Target by 2070
• The following decisions will be taken to fulfill the Modi government’s commitment to ‘net-zero’ by 2070 –
• Feasibility gap funding will be provided for harnessing offshore wind power. This will initially have a capacity limit of one giga-watt.
• Coal gasification and liquefaction capacity will be set at 100 MT by 2030. This will help reduce exports of natural gas, methanol and ammonia.
• Blending of biogas into CNG (for transport) and PNG (for domestic use) will be made mandatory in a phased manner.
• Financial assistance will be provided for the purchase of biomass aggregating machines.
Electric vehicles
A large number of charging stations will be set up to increase the use of electric vehicles by reducing the consumption of petrol and diesel in the country. Also, production of electric vehicles in India will be boosted. Also, more and more electric vehicles will be used for public transportation.
Biodevelopment
A new scheme of bio-manufacturing and bio-foundry will be announced for biodevelopment. Through this, eco-friendly options will be provided for various things. These will include biodegradable polymers, bio-plastics, bio-pharmaceuticals and bio-agri-inputs.
Blue Economy 2.0
A separate provision has been made in the budget to combat climate change, promote programs implemented in this regard and achieve the goal of ‘Blue Economy 2.0’. The finance minister also said that a multi-sectoral approach will be taken to develop coastal aquaculture and mariculture through this.
