what happened
Maldivian Minister Mariam Shiuna had made offensive remarks about Prime Minister Modi on social media. India had raised this issue with the government of Maldives, Mohammad Muijju. The Indian High Commissioner in Male strongly objected to this statement of the Minister. Following India’s objection, the Maldivian government issued a statement saying it was their personal opinion. It was also said that this statement of the Foreign Minister does not represent the views of the Government of Maldives.
But after India’s strong objection, the Maldives government suspended Minister Maryam Shiuna along with Malsha Sharif and Mahjoom Majeed for making offensive remarks about Prime Minister Modi. According to Maldivian government spokesman Minister Ibrahim Khalil, the three ministers responsible for the controversial remarks have been suspended with immediate effect.
All this matter started after Narendra Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep. After visiting Lakshadweep, PM Modi had shared some photos from there on social media. After this he also appealed to Indians to come here for tourism, after Maldivian Minister Mariam Shiuna had made offensive remarks against PM Modi. He was criticized after this tweet, after which he deleted the post.
