Election Expenses: Political parties in the country have spent crores of rupees on advertisements. Various social media platforms were flooded with political ads during the assembly elections of five states namely Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram in the month of November.
These ads are not published for free. For that, the concerned political parties have to pay money. 20 political advertisers have spent over Rs 40 crore on online advertising in the month of November alone.
Political parties spent Rs 5.98 crore on Facebook or Instagram (meta) alone, while 15,405 political ads worth Rs 36.31 crore were published by Google. This has been reported by Hindustan Times.
State units of the Bharatiya Janata Party spent Rs 2.58 crore on direct and indirect advertising on the Meta platform, while the Congress spent Rs 2.24 crore on advertising. Congress spent Rs 14.3 crore, BRS Rs 12.1 crore and BJP Rs 4.16 crore on Google ads.
Google Ads Rs 206.2 Crores
Almost 80 percent of the amount has been spent on Google ads. Rs 28.9 crore was spent on video ads, while 20 percent was spent on photos.
If we talk about Google Ads, Rs 206.2 Crores have been spent since 20 February 2019. In this, BJP has spent Rs 49.4 crore, DMK Rs 21.3 crore and Congress Rs 4.6 crore.
A look at the ads published on the meta pages of 20 political parties reveals different figures. The Congress has spent a total of Rs 2.05 crore on 1,263 advertisements, while the BJP has spent Rs 1.53 crore on 3,122 advertisements. In every election be it Assembly or Lok Sabha, all the parties spend a lot of money on online advertising.
