Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, plans to lay off hundreds of employees. In addition to the corporate job cuts, Walmart has directed some employees to return to the office, the source told Bloomberg. Employees from smaller offices in Dallas, Atlanta and Toronto have been asked to move to larger centers, including the company’s corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Employees will still be allowed to work part-time, but it will require them to spend more time in the office, a person familiar with the matter said. When asked about this, the spokesperson of Walmart said that the company does not have any information in this regard.
Walmart employs 2.1 million people
Companies around the world are asking employees to come back to the office. Walmart is the largest retailer in the world. Walmart operates approximately 4,600 stores domestically.
According to regulatory filings, Walmart employed 21 lakh people by January 31, 2024. Walmart had started the process of reducing staff since last year. The company aims to have 65% of its stores run on automation by the end of fiscal 2026.
Also in February 2023, Walmart closed three technology centers in the US and told hundreds of its employees that they would have to return to the office themselves if they wanted their jobs.
