West Indies cricket team’s brilliant spin all-rounder Sunil Narine has announced his retirement from international cricket. However, Sunil Narine will continue to play in T20 cricket. 35-year-old Sunis last took the field in 2019 against West Indies.
West Indies spinner Sunil Narine announced his retirement from international cricket. Narine, who was a member of the West Indies team that won the ICC T20 World Cup 2012, played his last international match against West Indies in the T20 International against India in Providence in August 2019. Thirty-five-year-old Narine wrote on ‘Instagram‘, ‘It has been more than four years since I last played for West Indies but today I announce my retirement from international cricket.’

Let us tell you that Sunil Narine’s dispute with the board was the reason behind him not playing for West Indies for the last four years. Sometimes due to salary issue and sometimes due to personal reasons, Sunil was not available for the national team. Apart from this, in the last few years he has given a lot of time to franchise cricket. Due to this reason also he could not play for West Indies.
He said, ‘Publicly I am a man of few words but privately there are some people who have given me unwavering support throughout my career and helped me achieve my dream of representing the West Indies. I express my gratitude to you. While retiring from top-level cricket, Narine thanked his family, especially his father and others around him.

He wrote, ‘I would like to thank Cricket West Indies, the coaching staff, the passionate West Indies fans and of course my teammates who have enabled me to play at the highest level across all formats and deliver some memorable performances.’ Narine is playing for Trinidad and Tobago in the Super50 Cup competition but said this would be his final List A competition. Narine, however, said he would continue his association with the game through franchise cricket.
He said, ‘Needless to say that I will continue to play franchise cricket in the near future.’ Narine came into limelight while playing for Trinidad in the now-defunct Champions League T20 in 2011. He immediately became the center of attention as he could bowl a variety of bowlers including skidder, knuckleball, carrom ball. He made his debut for West Indies in 2011 in an ODI against India in Ahmedabad.

Narine took 92 wickets in 65 ODI international matches for West Indies. He also represented West Indies in six Tests and 51 T20 Internationals, taking 21 and 52 wickets respectively. He has been a part of Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL since 2011 and is in high demand in T20 leagues around the world.
Narine’s bowling was also a part of controversy. He was also suspended several times for errors in bowling action. However, he was able to continue playing with improvements in his bowling action. Narine has also impressed with his batting in the T20 league and he also opens the innings in franchise cricket.
