Sudha Murty: This year's Lokmanya Tilak National Award was announced to Sudha Murty!

This year’s Lokmanya Tilak National Award has been announced to the senior writer Sudha Murthy, who played an important role for human and social development in accordance with Lokmanya Tilak’s Chatu: Swadeshi. The award was announced on Saturday by Lokmanya Tilak Smarak Trust (Tilak Swarajya Sangh).

Trustee of Lokmanya Tilak Smarak Trust Dr. Rohit Tilak announced the award in a press conference on Saturday. The award will be distributed in New Delhi on the 104th death anniversary of Lokmanya Tilak on Thursday, August 1.

On this occasion senior leader and Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Chandra Pawar, MP Dr. Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj, former Home Minister of Kerala Ramesh Chennith as chief guest on this occasion and Dr. Geethali Tilak, Dr. Pranati Rohit Tilak along with other Trustees of the Trust will be present on this occasion. The award consists of a memento and one lakh rupees.

This year marks the 42nd year of the Lokmanya Tilak National Award. In this ceremony, The coffee table book ‘Legendary Lokmanya’ written by Pranati Rohit Tilak will be released by the Chief Guest. This coffeetable book includes important events in the life of the people and rare photographs.

Since 1983, individuals who have selflessly worked for the good of the country have been honored with this award. So far SM Joshi, Indira Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Pranab Mukherjee, Shankar Dayal Sharma, Balasaheb Devras, Khan Abdul Ghafar Khan, Sharad Chandra Pawar, N. R. Narayanamurthy, G. Madhavan Nair, Dr. Kota Harinarayan, Rahul Bajaj, Baba Kalyani, E. Sreedharan, Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, Dr. Varghese Kurien, among others, has been honored with this award. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored with this award last year.

Stating that Swarajya, Swadeshi, National Education and Boycott, the popular slogans are still as important today. Rohit Tilak said, ” Sudha Murthy is actively involved in the creation of Infosys Foundation, a social work organization. She is the co-founder of this organization. Through Infosys Foundation, Murthy promoted development works in various sectors of the society. Her work for the development of rural areas is a catalyst for the development of the country. has been decided

Her contribution in the field of literature also became awareness in the society. Sudha Murthy writes in Marathi, Kannada and English. She has made computers and libraries available in all Karnataka Govt schools. She has started a library named ‘Murthy Classical Library of India’ at Harvard University. She built around 10,000 toilets through the organization in the rural areas of Karnataka and in Bangalore city and vicinity. She did special service during the Tsunami in Tamil Nadu and Andaman. The organization has also provided assistance to the residents of drought-prone areas of Maharashtra.”
