SEBI Survey

Are women ahead of men in stock market gains? This information has been revealed through the SEBI survey. The reason behind this is related to taxation. According to a SEBI survey, women’s loss ratio in intraday trading is less than that of men.

SEBI Survey: Women Show Lower Loss Ratio in Stock Market

Men use women’s Demat accounts

Market experts told Moneycontrol that many men use demat accounts opened in the name of their wives or mothers to save tax. So men have the skills to make profits in the stock market. For example, a person’s taxable income may be much higher as it may include his salary income along with trading income.

Key findings from the SEBI survey

• Women’s loss ratio in intraday trading is lower than men’s.

• This could be due to men using women’s Demat accounts to save tax.

• The study also suggests a correlation between age/experience and lower loss ratios, independent of gender.

Less loss to women traders

Using a demat account opened in the name of wife or mother reduces the total taxable income. According to SEBI’s study, since FY19, women’s loss ratio has been lower than that of men.

In FY 2023, the loss rate for women was 66 percent, while the loss rate for men was 72 percent. Similarly, in FY 2023, women’s profit making rate is 23 percent, which is higher than men’s profit making rate of 28 percent.

The study also revealed that a married person earns more. Married people not only have lower loss ratio but also higher gain ratio. Market experts say that the main reason for this is not marriage but age and intelligence.

Nilesh Sharma, chairman and managing director of Samco Securities, said that generally people get married at the age of 30. At this age, a person has a lot of experience. This makes them less loss and more profit. The same is true of young traders, whose loss ratio is lower than that of experienced traders.
