RCB Qualification Scenario IPL 2024
Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have been at the bottom of the points race since the start, have done wonders. Bangalore had lost 7 of the first 8 matches. But the miracle that RCB did after that is beyond belief. Bengaluru registered their fifth straight win this season.
Bengaluru defeated Delhi Capitals in the 62nd match of IPL 2024. With this win, Bengaluru kept their hopes of reaching the play offs alive. Now Bengaluru will face Chennai Super Kings. This match will be decisive for the playoffs. Whoever wins this match between Chennai and Bengaluru can qualify for the playoffs. But here too there is a twist which is net run rate.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have a worse net run rate than Chennai. Bengaluru have played a total of 13 matches so far this season, winning 6 of them and are fifth in the points table. Bengaluru’s net run rate is +0.387.
On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings have also played 13 matches so far this season, out of which they have won 7 matches and are at the third position in the points table. Chennai’s net run rate is +0.528.
In such a situation, on May 18, crores of fans have caught their eyes. Interestingly, Bengaluru won’t be able to qualify just by winning this match, because even if Bengaluru wins the next match, they can win only 7 matches. In such a situation, RCB will also have to take care of the net run rate.
On the other hand, matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants will also be very important for RCB. Both these teams have 2-2 matches left and both these teams can still reach 16 points. In such a scenario, RCB will have to hope that one of these teams loses one of their matches, leaving them with just 14 points. Although Lucknow’s net run rate is very poor, if Lucknow loses 1 out of 2 matches, RCB’s path will be easy.
How big a win do RCB need to qualify?
If Bengaluru want to qualify for the playoffs, you must have a big defeat against Chennai. But the question is how big is this victory? In this match, Bengaluru batted first and set Chennai a target of 180 runs, while RCB will have to win by 18 runs.
On the other hand, if RCB chase, the target of 180 runs will have to be passed in 18.1 overs. If RCB beat Chennai by this margin, they will qualify for the playoffs. In such a scenario, RCB will go all out against Chennai and qualify for the playoffs.
