March Becomes Hottest Month In Year
The world just experienced its warmest March on record, the European Union’s Climate Change Monitoring Service said on Tuesday. It conducted a 10-month heat study that found each month set a new temperature record.
• The EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) said in its monthly bulletin that each new month of the last 10 months broke the previous month’s heat record. Also in this, March was recorded as the hottest month.
• Samantha Bergech, deputy director of C3S, said that these heat records are not normal. They are worrying. She further said that during this study, when the data was checked from 1940 till now, it was revealed that March of this year has been the hottest month since then. On the other hand, 2023 has been the hottest year since 1850.
• “Fossil fuel emissions are the main cause of global warming,” said climate scientist Friedrich Otto of the Grantham Institute at Imperial College London.
• Failure to reduce these emissions will fuel the warming of the planet, resulting in more severe droughts, fires, heat waves and extreme rainfall, Otto said.

What causes increased heat?
Due to the lack of rain, drought conditions had developed in the Amazon forest. At the same time, forest fires in Venezuela broke records in January-March. In South Africa, drought destroyed crops and millions faced starvation.
C3S says man-made greenhouse gases are the cause of rapid warming. Other warming factors include El Niño. El Nino peaked in December-January and is now weakening.
