MapMyIndia Legal Action: MapMyIndia, the country’s leading map maker, has filed a serious allegation against Ola Electric. Along with this, a legal action notice has also been issued to the company.

Country’s leading map maker MapMyIndia has leveled a serious allegation against Ola Electric. Just days after Ola launched its own maps Ola Maps, MapMyIndia has accused them of stealing map data.
MapMyIndia provided navigation services for Ola Electric’s scooters as per the agreement signed in 2022. However, the agreement prohibited Ola from copying the map data or using it for any other map services.

MapMyIndia alleges that Ola Maps is a copy of its own map data. MapMyIndia’s parent company CE Info System is suing Ola Electric both criminally and civilly in this matter.
Ola had announced in the first week of July to use its own Ola Maps, leaving Google Maps and Microsoft Azure, with an aim to cut costs and provide indigenous map services to India. Ola also claimed that this would save Rs 100 crore every year.
In 2004, MapMyIndia launched India’s first interactive map portal. He also developed the GPS navigation used in many cars. Today MapMyIndia provides map data of over 75 lakh kilometers of roads and over 1 crore places in India.
This incident highlights the fierce competition in the digital mapping sector in India. MapMyIndia, already in the market, has tried to preserve its proprietary map data and intellectual property. On the other hand, Ola Electric, which is growing rapidly in the field of electric vehicles, has now also made its debut in the field of digital mapping.
Ola has decided to use its own maps to reduce costs and gain autonomy in the technology space. But this has led to disputes with his old colleagues and competitors.

Another interesting aspect of this debate should be noted. Within days of Ola’s Maps launch, Google slashed the price of Maps for developers by 70 percent. This shows the impact of new competitors on established companies.
