Jibram Violence: Since May last year, more than 200 people have been killed and thousands displaced in communal violence
On the one hand, an agreement was reached between the Metei and Hamar communities to maintain peace in Jiribam, Manipur. But within 24 hours of the agreement, violence has erupted in Jiribam. Here, bullets were fired in Meitei Colony and a house was set on fire in Lalpani village.
Peace Agreement
In fact, representatives of the Meitei and Hamar communities had agreed to work together to improve the situation and restore peace in Manipur’s violence-hit Jiribam district.
An agreement was reached between the two parties in a face-to-face meeting held at the CRPF facility in Cachar, Assam on Thursday.
What in Agreement
In this agreement, it was decided that both sides will make every effort to normalize the situation, reduce the arson, and stop the incidents of firing.
Within 24 hours of this agreement, violence erupted in Lalpani village of Jiribam. Armed men set fire to a house in the village on Friday night. Several rounds of bullets were fired targeting the village.

Ethnically diverse Jiribam has not been hit hard by ethnic violence. However, in June this year, after the mutilated body of a farmer was found in the field, violence broke out here as well.
Incidents of arson on both sides forced thousands of people to leave their homes and go to relief camps. Here in mid-July, terrorists attacked the security forces during a patrol. A CRPF jawan had to lose his life this time.
