Nagpur Personal Data Leak

While using a smartphone, people often install various apps, games without any thought. Not only this, it also opens links. But through that, personal information in your mobile can be tampered with and hacked. From this we can be dragged into any crisis.

65 thousand 893 cyber crimes have been registered in the country in 2022. Most of these crimes are related to online fraud. Maharashtra has the fourth rank in this. 8 thousand 249 cyber crimes have been registered in the state. Especially highly educated people have been cheated and there are more cases of cheating by luring part-time jobs, emptying bank account by clicking on links or asking for OTP. According to NCRB data of 2022, 221 cyber cases have been reported in Nagpur. Among them, 21 cases are related to cyber stalking of women and children.

What should be done to prevent such incidents?

Keep a close eye on the permission asked while installing any app. If possible, deny permission to personal phonebook, camera and location. Some apps are installed in mobile without permission. In that case, the privacy option in the mobile settings should be kept on. Always keep your mobile operating system updated.

For that, keep checking the update option in the mobile settings from time to time. Also, the applications that use it should also be kept updated. No app should be installed from third party store instead of play store.

Care should be taken while giving mobile phones to children

• Keep parental control related applications installed in your mobile.

• Keep the privacy pin activated in the settings so that no other app can be used in the mobile. So that children will not use other apps.

• We get many links or messages regularly. You must have an application called Virus Total in your mobile to check if they are fraud. This application shows a red alert if there is a fraud link. Also, if you want to identify a fake link, you should pay attention to the spelling. Do not open the link if it is wrong.- Diksha Borkar, Cyber Security Expert
