Congress Tax Notice: Challenges of Congress are not ending! New notice of income tax department, tax of 3500 crores to be paid

Congress Tax Notice

There are no signs of abating the problems faced by the Congress party during the election period. On one hand, big leaders are leaving the party. On the other hand, legal problems are facing the party.

According to the information that has recently come to light, the Congress has received a new notice from the Income Tax Department. 1,745 crore tax has been demanded for the years 2014-15 to 2016-17.

With this new notice, the Income Tax Department has demanded a total tax of Rs 3,567 crore from the Congress.

According to sources, this new tax notice pertains to 2014-15 (Rs 663 crore), 2015-16 (Rs 664 crore approx) and 2016-17 (Rs 417 crore approx).

Sources said the Congress was also taxed on third party entries in diaries seized from some Congress leaders during the raids conducted by the investigative agencies.

The Congress had said on Friday that it has received a notice from the Income Tax department, asking it to pay about Rs 1823 crore.

Income tax department officials have withdrawn Rs 135 crore from the party’s account last year to demand related taxes.

Congress leaders alleged that no tax was levied on ‘third party’ entries in other diaries bearing names of BJP leaders.

The Congress has accused the BJP of financially crippling the main opposition party by holding hands with government institutions. In this regard, a complaint has also been lodged with the Election Commission, and a request has been made to maintain balance among all the political parties.

Earlier on Thursday, the Delhi High Court had given a blow to the Congress. The court had dismissed the petitions challenging the initiation of tax revaluation proceedings against them by the tax authorities for a period of four years.

In its order, the bench of the Delhi High Court said that there were many unaccounted transactions in the accounts of the Congress. The Income Tax authorities had sufficient and substantial evidence to initiate their reassessment proceedings. Based on that action was initiated.
