All the petitions regarding the ballot papers have been dismissed by the Supreme Court. Therefore, the Supreme Court has clarified that elections will be held on EVM machines only. All the petitions filed were being heard in the Supreme Court.

These petitions were being heard for the last several days. The court had earlier said that it was difficult to conduct elections on ballot paper, and sought verification of EVM machines and VVPATs. A process to improve it can be implemented by giving directions in this regard.

The Supreme Court has given two directions – the first direction is that after the completion of the symbol loading process, the Symbol Loading Units (SLU) should be sealed and kept for at least 45 days. Apart from this another directive is that the team of engineers will check the old memory of the microcontroller unit.

Earlier, the bench had reserved judgment on the petitions on April 18 after two days of consecutive hearings. However, the Supreme Court again registered the matter on Wednesday. After that, the Supreme Court sought an explanation from the Election Commission on some issues. The court then reserved its decision.
