In the domestic market, 21 lakh 27 thousand 177 vehicles were sold in the month of March, showing an annual increase of 3.14 percent. Last year in March, 20 lakh 62 thousand 409 vehicles were sold. The figures were released today by the Federation of Automobile Associations (FADA).
In March, the highest growth of 17.13 percent was seen in the sales of three-wheelers. Last month, a total of one lakh five thousand 222 three-wheelers were sold across the country. In March 2023 it was 89,837. Commercial vehicle sales declined by 5.87 percent year-on-year. There has been a five percent increase in the two-wheeler category. This month also saw an increase in sales of electric vehicles, with the market share of electric two-wheelers rising to 9.12 percent for the first time, FADA said.
Passenger vehicle sales, however, fell by two per cent compared to February and six per cent compared to March last year. Maruti Suzuki has sold the most 1.26 lakh cars in the month of March in passenger vehicle sales. In the same month last year, the company had sold 1.39 lakh cars.
FY 2024 Milestone
FY 2024 marks a milestone for passenger vehicles. A total of two crore 45 lakh 30 thousand 334 vehicles were sold in the financial year 2023-24. This figure is 10.29 percent higher than the previous financial year. In the financial year 2022-23, a total of two crore 22 lakh 41 thousand 361 vehicles were sold, FADA has also said.
Two-wheelers grew by nine per cent, three-wheelers by 49 per cent, passenger vehicles by 8.45 per cent, tractors by 8 per cent and commercial vehicles by 5 per cent.
