According to reports, these houses will be built under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. More than 78,000 houses will be constructed under the scheme. A maximum of 58,000 of these houses will be built in Tamil Nadu.
This model will increase employees’ focus on work
Most of the houses are being constructed by the Tamil Nadu State Industries Promotion Corporation (SIPCOT). Tata Group and SPR India are also building houses.
As part of the scheme, the central government will fund 10-15 percent while the rest will come from state governments and businesses. Officials said the construction will be completed by March 31, 2025.
An official said, “The objective behind the scheme is to improve the efficiency of the workforce and provide security to mainly migrant women workers. Most of these workers are in the age group of 19-24.”
Officials said that such a large-scale housing project for employees, especially women employees, is the first of its kind in India. He said most of the workers live in rented houses and travel an hour by bus to the factory. Many of the employees are women, which also creates security related issues.

Foxconn, Apple’s largest iPhone supplier in India, will get 35,000 homes. Foxconn currently employs 41,000 employees, 75 percent of whom are women. Their office is at Sriperumbadur, Tamil Nadu. Tata Electronics is building 11,500 houses for employees at its Hosur factory.
