What is the number of India?
India has retained the same 126th rank as last year. On the other hand, Afghanistan, which was taken over by the Taliban in 2020, is last on the list at 143rd place. Afghanistan has been placed at the bottom of the list due to the situation in Afghanistan and the miserable condition of its people.
Interestingly, for the first time since the report was published, the US and Germany are not among the top 20 countries. In this list, USA is 23rd and Germany is 24th. On the contrary, Costa Rica, Kuwait have made it to the top 20 countries. These countries are ranked 12th and 14th respectively. It can be seen from the report that big countries are lagging behind in the list of happy countries.
Among the top ten countries, the Netherlands and Australia are the only two countries with a population of more than one and a half crore. Among the top 20 countries are Canada and the UK, two countries with a population of more than three crores. Afghanistan, Lebanon, Jordan have declined sharply, while Eastern European countries Serbia, Bulgaria and Latvia have shown improvement.
How is a happy country determined?
People’s opinions are sought while determining the happiness report. How satisfied people are with their lives, GDP per capita, social support, health, life expectancy, freedom, corruption, generosity are taken into account in determining a happy country.
A close connection with nature and a healthy work-life balance are the keys to a satisfied life, says Jennifer De Paole, a happiness researcher in Helsinki, Finland. She also said that people’s trust in the government, low level of corruption, education, public facilities, and contented life rather than money are important for a happy life.
