Uniform Civil Code: Failure to register a live-in relationship will result in 6 months imprisonment. A website for registration of live-in relationships is also being created.

After the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code, it will be mandatory to register live-in relationships on a web portal in the state of Uttarakhand. In case of non-registration, the couple can be punished with imprisonment for six months or a fine of Rs 25,000 or both. A couple can rent a house, hostel or PG based on the receipt they get as registration. According to the information received, this provision has been made in the UCC draft recently submitted to the Dhami government.
Live-in relationships are clearly defined in the UCC. According to this, only one adult man and one adult woman can be in a live-in relationship. They should not already be married or in a live-in relationship with anyone else. Every person living in a live-in relationship has to register compulsorily on the registered web portal for living in a live-in relationship.
Those living in a live-in relationship have to inform their parents about it
After registration they will be given a registration receipt. Based on that receipt the couple can rent a house or hostel or PG. The registrar must be informed by the parent or guardians of the couple registering.
A child born in a live-in will have all the rights of a biological child
Children born during live-in will be considered as the legal children of the couple and the child will get all the rights of the child. Every person living in a live-in relationship will also be obliged to register for separation.
