Padma Awards

Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, famous actress Vyjayanthimala Bali, actors Chiranjeevi, Bindeshwar Pathak (posthumously) and Padma Subrahmanyam will be honored with Padma Vibhushan.

New Delhi: Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, famous actress Vyjayanthimala Bali, actors Chiranjeevi, Bindeshwar Pathak (posthumously) and Padma Subrahmanyam will be honored with Padma Vibhushan.

Famous directors Rajdutt, Hormusji Kama, Ashwin Mehta, former governor Ram Naik, music composer Pyarelal and Kundan Vyas will be honored with Padma Bhushan. Mallakhamba coach Uday Deshpande from Maharashtra,

Radha Krishna Dhiman, Manohar Agoye, Zaheer Kazi, Chandrasekhar Meshram, Kalpana Morpariya, social activist Shankar Baba Papalkar will be honored with Padma Shri. The Padma awards given by the central government to outstanding performers in various fields were announced late on Thursday night.

A total of five people will be honored with Padma Bhushan, 17 people will be honored with Padma Bhushan and 110 people will be honored with Padma Shri. The honorees include 30 women. Eight foreign nationals will also be honoured.

34 “unsung heroes” including India’s first female elephant mahout Parvati Barua, tribal environmentalist Chami Murmu, social activist Sangthankima, who runs Mizoram’s largest orphanage, and plastic surgeon Prema Dhanraj, who treats burn victims, will be honored with the Padma Shri.

Released on the eve of Republic Day, the list will also honor South Andaman organic farmer K Chellammal, eminent microbiologist Yazdi Maneksha Italia who pioneered the development of sickle cell anemia control programme.

Since last 60 years I have been working in social and political field with absolute spirit. The Padma Bhushan award received today is a tribute to this work. I will continue my vow of Charaiveti Charaiveti.

This is a happy news for me. So far 1 lakh 70 thousand eye surgeries have been done. This award has given strength to carry forward this work of vision. To receive this honor at the age of 96 is a true acknowledgment of the work.
