Australia defeated India by six wickets in the final of the Cricket World Cup. Prime Minister Modi went to Ahmedabad to watch the final match. They reached the stadium in the second half of the match. Modi handed over the World Cup to Pat Cummins along with Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles.

• All players including captain Rohit Sharma were disappointed due to this defeat. Some were emotional. After the award ceremony, the Indian players went to the dressing room. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also entered the dressing room after him and encouraged all the players, while appreciating their brilliant performance in the tournament. Mohammad Shami was also encouraged by taking him close. That picture was released by Shami on social media. Ravindra Jadeja also interacted with the Prime Minister.
• PM Modi shook hands with Shubman Gill after meeting Jadeja. After this he went to Mohammed Shami and hugged him. PM told him, “You played very well this time.
• He then went to Jasprit Bumrah and asked him if he could speak Gujarati, to which Bumrah said he could.

• Posting a photo with Modi, Shami wrote, “Unfortunately yesterday was not our day. I would like to thank all Indians for supporting our team and me throughout this tournament. We are thankful to PM Modi for coming to the dressing room and raising morale. We will bounce back.”
• Jadeja also shared a picture with Modi and wrote, “We did well. But yesterday was defeated. We are all saddened, but with the support people have given us, we will move forward. The Prime Minister’s visit to the dressing room yesterday was special and very inspiring.”
• Dear Team India, Your skill and determination has been evident throughout the World Cup. You played very well and made the entire country proud. We stand by you today and beyond.
